Bio

Tea Eater is a Brooklyn-based weirdo art punk band fronted by Tarra Thiessen. They create campy, cunty, wall-of-fuzz songs. Tea Eater features members of Gustaf and Sharkmuffin, They have opened for Thee Oh Sees, Death Valley Girls, Sloppy Jane, The Bug Club and L.A. Witch. They have completed East Coast and Midwest tours, 3 LA residencies, a set at Distorsion Psych Fest in Montreal, and three UK/EU tours.

Tea Eater made significant waves with their first record Obsession, produced and mixed by Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster/Of Montreal/Bambara), released in 2023 via A Diamond Heart Productions. Their sophomore LP I Don’t Believe in Bad Luck is the story of a hotline psychic who is sick of everyone (especially herself). The album was printed on a limited edition blue vinyl and came with a custom Tea Eater tarot deck. They are currently finishing up their third LP Cake Stealer.

Cake Stealer was tracked in an expensive and underused LA studio built by a tech company before their producer David Levin was laid off due to AI. The band seized the moment and snuck in to record during his final month on the job, capturing their most evolved (and unhinged) work to date. The psychedelic art-punk album includes songs about Large Marge from Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, a dark ode to Garfield the cat, a jab at friends always asking to be on the guest list, and a couple of tracks about bodily functions. Guest features include Sophie Sputnik (Ganser) on backing vocals and Melissa Lucciola (Francie Moon, Gustaf) on guitar.

Press

“Mastermind Tarra Thiessen does not fail to expose her vocal timbre and her DIY will"- Rolling Stone France

"The Brooklyn based solo effort of Tarra Thiessen creates without restraint, her songs feel primal and swaggering." - Post-Trash

“…all the projects Tarra’s been part of…are across-the-board F-U-N where said fun is far from being absent-minded but instead just the opposite cuz being seriously fun or even more so funny is a special talent indeed for a musician seeing as there’s real multi-tasking involved in being skilled and engaging musically." - The Deli Magazine
